The former England captain on being diagnosed with motor neurone disease
- Released
Previous national team leader Lewis Moody has been encouraged to face motor neurone disease with "all his might" by past playing partner and teammate from the victorious squad Will Greenwood.
Lewis Moody, aged 47, found out about the progressive neurological disorder 14 days prior and has revealed to a morning news program that he is struggling to confront the implications of his diagnosis.
Rugby league legend Rob Burrow and Scotland and British and Irish Lions great Doddie Weir have both died from the disease in recent years.
"He represents the best of humanity that we cherish deeply," Greenwood, who shared the field with Moody for both England and Leicester, shared on a radio broadcast.
"This is devastating information, because he is among the finest people. And I know there is no order to this stuff - life's unpredictable nature - but you root for the good guys."
"He possesses no malice, he is the most positive person you can ever meet... and then he had an ability on the pitch to completely change and be a remarkably determined player."
"He's determined to combat this with complete dedication."
Greenwood and Moody were team-mates with multiple teams
The club executive, Sweeney's counterpart at the club where Moody played extensively, earning numerous national trophies and international successes over a decade and a half, also praised Moody as someone beyond just sports.
"The figures, trophies and awards show the remarkable sportsman Lewis was, but that is only half the story," said Pinchen.
"At one moment he'd be celebrating with the international prize and the subsequent match day he'd be in the sales department where I worked, responding to enthusiast inquiries if we were really busy and helping sell tickets."
"Personally, his commitment to his club along with his generosity and drive was evident, which made him beloved among players, personnel and followers."
"Always looking to help others, Lewis alongside his wife Annie have labored diligently through the Lewis Moody Foundation, funding studies about brain cancer and assisting impacted households."
"He fully dedicated himself. It was truly demonstrated through action. He would not request anyone to do something he couldn't accomplish personally. He is completely courageous."
