Defiant Celtic's manager shows no fear of dismissal however supporters show wrath after defeat.
Wilfried Nancy declared he had no concerns about dismissal, claiming, “I believe we are extremely close to a turnaround,” despite moving dangerously close to being fired with a heavy setback against the Ibrox side.
Another Collapse Results in Old Firm Defeat
The Hoops were in front the visitors at half-time but a collapse after the break let Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the reigning league title holders. The French coach, who was brought in from the MLS, has now overseen six defeats in eight matches.
“The board and I are united with the board,” insisted the manager.
Pressed on his own future, the 48-year-old replied: “I don’t think about it. I concentrate on discovering solutions to help my team to improve on details.
Supporters' Anger Outside Parkhead
Celtic’s support displayed their anger – directed at the board and manager – by protesting at Parkhead. The board would be most likely to return to the former boss, who enjoyed a successful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the reality for the moment. But in stating that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. Not at all. The message is the turnaround is near, really, really close to turn things around.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach highlights the fact Celtic can perform strongly for a half at a time. For instance, if not for missed chances they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit other than the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain objective.
“The level we had at stages was exceptionally high. That is a fact. I wouldn't say that if it was not the case. Therefore, in terms of results, I said this is the same story. Which is why I feel a change is coming to things turning around. But for the moment: details, details, details.”
“There were a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. The issue now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would not be the same. This is why I firmly believe the team can to fix this.”
Opposition Reaction Response
Rangers manager refused to contemplate a title charge even after what appeared to be a huge result. “One match at a time, and we can really build up a challenge,” he said. “The confidence in the group is outstanding.”
