Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a significant and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
