The sports network Cuts Ties with Mark Sanchez, Substitutes Him with Drew Brees
The network has ended its relationship with sports commentator Mark Sanchez amidst his criminal charges, multiple outlets confirmed on Friday.
"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network," a Fox spokesperson commented. "There will be no further comment currently."
Stepping into the commentary position will be another former professional quarterback, Drew Brees, according to the report. He is expected to work alongside play-by-play voice Adam Amin and has a contract to provide commentary until at least 2026.
Background on the Incident Involving Sanchez
Sanchez, 38 had been sidelined since he was stabbed and later taken into custody following a fight in an Indianapolis alley with a senior truck driver. He had traveled to commentate on the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was admitted to the hospital and replaced that week by Brady Quinn.
He is charged with a felony battery charge as well as multiple lesser charges. The felony charge could result in of one to six years in prison, if convicted, and he has pleaded not guilty in Marion County, Indiana.
Drew Brees' Professional Background
The 46-year-old Brees retired from the NFL after the 2020 season and worked during 2021 with the NBC network, serving as a game analyst for the network’s Notre Dame broadcasts and featured in a football program.
Brees has done studio work with multiple networks and acted as an analyst for Netflix’s international game last Christmas.
He guided the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV championship in the 2009 NFL season and was a two-time NFL offensive standout. He is second behind Tom Brady in league history in yards thrown (80,358) and TD passes (571).
