Cardiff will host the first match of UEFA's tournament, while penultimate matches and championship match are set for the iconic English venue

Nine stadiums across four participating countries - multiple British isles nations - will host the 24-team tournament

Fixtures were originally planned for Northern Ireland, but the proposed Belfast venue was removed due to financial constraints

The governing body's selection to host the opening match in the Welsh capital was announced as the competition was officially launched on Wednesday

"This will be the historic moment that '{The Red Wall' - our loyal followers - will witness a prestigious competition on native ground," remarked Welsh football governing body head official the organization's leader

Unlike previous Euros, host nations must secure entry for the future competition, though they would be guaranteed to play their group games on home turf if they secure immediate qualification

The participating countries will each be in distinct preliminary sections, with two spots also designated for the highest-ranked of those sides who don't make it through standard entry paths

Competition Format

Quarter-finals will be organized at the Welsh national venue, Dublin's Aviva Stadium, Glasgow's Hampden Park and London's iconic venue - which previously hosted semi-finals and final in 1996 and for the delayed 2020 edition

Manchester's venue, where England's national team would start their journey if they qualify directly, before switching to Wembley, is part of multiple other venues being used in the host nation

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Birmingham's ground, Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium and Newcastle's stadium are the others that will be utilized across the 51 matches in total

Tourism Boost

The UK government says it is committing significant funding to organize the tournament but anticipates a financial gain of billions of pounds due to work generation, regional growth and overseas tourism

"This tournament will be the most significant occasion ever collaboratively staged by the UK and Ireland and, as a lifelong football fan, I know how much international competitions like this are important," commented UK Prime Minister

With an typical venue size of just under substantial numbers, tournament organizers forecasts that more supporters than ever before will attend matches at a European Championship finals
