Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half in an unintentional contact with teammate Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the court holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, that tops the league season in boards and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the problem.

The player will have an MRI scan on the following day to determine the extent of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Denver head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."

"We will continue together. Of course, right now, I'm more worried primarily about him personally and the disappointment of going through an event of that nature."
